How do you get the SNS in Portugal?

To obtain your National Health Service (SNS) number in Portugal, follow these steps:

1. Visit a Health Center: You can go to a local health center (Centro de Saúde) in Cascais. A recommended location is near the market square.
2. Documents Required: Bring the following documents:
   • Original residence papers.
   • Passport for each person.
   • NIF (Número de Identificação Fiscal) registration.
   • Proof of address in Portugal.
3. Registration Process: Upon arrival, take a line-up ticket and wait to be called. Normally, the ‘utente’ registration and number are issued on the spot.

Alternatively, you may also apply via email. You can send a scan of your passport, resident card, and NIF to the email: cascais.gc@arslvt.min-saude.pt. They will process your request and send your SNS number via email within a couple of weeks.
